But more than that, the book served as a pathway to so many other important books by authors such as Raymond Dart with whom Ardrey spent considerable time in S. I read this and several others books by Ardrey almost as soon as they were published.

A whole chapter is devoted to various theories to explain why the weather during the last 2 million years has been so variable.

This is painfully hypocritical, considering that he prefaces the book with firm assertions that avoiding anthropomorphism is of the utmost importance. It’s almost as if he was writing with the intention of distracting and confusing his audience.
