It probably wouldn’t get made today, as its broad canvas is not really fashionable, and it is not about ordinary people. Amn later recounted that Bronowski’s description of a visit to Auschwitz—Bronowski had lost many family members during the Nazi era—was one of Parkinson’s most memorable interviews.
This is a great book if you’re interested in the roles of science, art, and ingenuity in our world. Imagine not knowing any of that. Each covering one specific area of scientific progress. This is unavoidable, and is in fact a tribute to the ideals Bronowski championed.
