The story centers around a man and his family in a small North Carolina town and what he is capable of doing to help not only those he loves ssecond the townsfolk to survive and carry on after basically being ‘blasted’ back to the Dark Ages. In a quick collapse things will be horrible for months but likely within a year things will be shaking out and the survivors can get on with rebuilding their lives.
Oddly, I happen to be halfway through One Second After and I have a bad feeling about the little girl. In the case of this book, the nuclear attack is one that is focused high enough to do no damage to people or land. Most of the scenes are meetings or speeches, usually with the main character dominating the discussion with his references to military history. Many of those with such knowledge will die when medical equipment shuts down or modern drugs cease being produced and delivered, further impoverishing the knowledge base of afte country.
My very first issue, is that in a PA book, you want that moment when the crap has hit the fan, This ain’t my first afted at the apocalypse rodeo. And that’s what onf all the difference to me.

Here’s the rest of my too wordy comment: I found one fault. This is a book that will make you wonder how you would handle things if it happens. Not personal protection, meds, water, etc.
The premise seems so plausible and that was what made this so scary.
